Creating New Document in Adobe Illustrator CS6
The design process starts by creating a new document. You can
create multiple documents and work on them simultaneously; however, opening
more than one document consumes more processing power.
You can either create a new document using the New command under the File menu
or press the shortcut keys, CTRL+N together. In both cases, the New Document dialog
box opens, where you can specify various document properties, such as name,
document profile, size, and number of art-boards.
The values specified in the Size option affect the height and width of the
Illustrator document.
Perform the following steps to create a new document using the
New command:
1. Select Start→All Programs Adobe Master Collection CS6→Adobe illustrator
CS6 from the Start menu, if not already open. The main Illustrator window
appears with a blank canvas.
2. Select File→New from the Menu bar to open the New Document
dialog box.
3. Type a name in the Name text box. In our case, we have typed
New Document.
4. Select a document profile in the Profile drop-down list. In
our case, we have selected Web. You can select other profiles, such as Print,
Devices, Video and Film, and Flash
Builder in the Profile drop-down list.
Builder in the Profile drop-down list.
The default Size option for the Web profile is 960 × 560.
In the New Document dialog box, the Units option is set to
Pixels and Orientation is set to landscape for the default Web profile.
Additionally, there are other options in the Advanced section including Color
Mode, Raster Effects, and Preview Mode. You can also modify these options to
customize the profile. To expand the Advanced section, click the arrow head
before the text Advanced if not already expanded.
